ZSpheres: Building a Hand
From ZBrush Info
This ZSphere method shows how to add hands to a basic humanoid using the default settings.
In Edit mode, position the model so that you can clearly see the wrist area. Make sure X Symmetry is switched on so that both hands are built at the same time. Using a small Draw Size, click and drag to a create a new zsphere, then hold down Ctrl before dragging some more - the new zsphere is scaled to the Draw Size and positioned away from its parent.
Add two more zspheres in the same way.
Click to add two new zspheres either side of the middle finger - these will become the index and ring fingers.
Add zspheres to the thumb and little finger so that they can be repositioned in Move mode.
Remember to preview the mesh as you work by pressing A on the keyboard.
Now add further zspheres to create the joints and then reposition the fingers in a more natural manner.
Finally create a polymesh version of your zsphere model by pressing Tool: Adaptive Skin: Make Adaptive Skin. Select the new skinned version in the Tool palette and then refine your model using the Move brush before starting to sculpt.
