What is ZBrush.info?

ZBrushInfo is a new official Pixologic site, with the purpose of providing learning, reference, and other basic resources to the ZBrush user community.

In addition, users can make their own contributions to the site by editing or creating pages. We hope this will become a valuable way in which ZBrush users can make their insights and experience a permanent part of the ZBrush community resource base.

ZBrushInfo is not a replacement for ZBrushCentral. In particular, you should continue posting your own artwork on ZBrushCentral, and questions should (for the most part) also still go on ZBrushCentral.

Creating and Using Accounts

You don't need to have a user account to read the pages in ZBrushInfo.

However, if you wish to contribute to or add pages on this site, you will need to create an account. Creating accounts or logging is done just by clicking the appropriate link at the top right corner of the page.

Finding Things

To find things on ZBrushCentral, simply use the "search" textbox on the left of the screen. Simply enter in your text of interest, and either press:

  • Go, to go to that page name, or search for similar page names, or
  • Search, to do a full text search of the site.

The site software has other search-type options available, and we'll be posting information about them as we get them into use.

Creating Wiki Pages

To begin, you must first create a new page. A new page can be created in two ways:

  • Search for it. Type its name in the search box to the left and press "Go". If it doesn't exist you can click "create this page".
  • Add a reference to it from another page
  1. Go to Material and Texturing Tutorials or whatever page makes sense.
  2. Press the Edit tab along the top
  3. Under the ==Texturing== section you could type the following *[[Frenchy Pilou's tutorial]]
  4. Press Save page at the bottom left
  5. Now, on the Material and Texturing Tutorials page click Frenchy Pilou's tutorial. This will take you to a new page that you can add text to.
  6. When you are done just press the Save page on the bottom left

To upload images, press the "Upload file" button in the toolbox to the left.

To put that image in your own page, type [[Image:Frenchy Pilou.jpg]]. To learn more about images and how to place them in your wiki page visit the meta edit page below.

Markup and Style

ZBrushInfo uses the MediaWiki wiki engine, which has a special markup language used to enter text. You can get a complete description of MediaWiki markup at the wikimedia Meta Edit page.

MediaWiki allows the definition of templates, which can used to apply uniform formatting throughout an entire site. If you do want to contribute to ZBrushInfo, please reade ZBrushInfo Templates first, and use those templates whenever they apply.

Protected and Unprotected Pages

Pages in ZBrushInfo may be protected or unprotected. Protected pages can only be edited by the official site editors; you'll know you're in a protected page when you are disallowed from editing it!

You'll know you're in an unprotected page when you see an edit tab at the top of the page. Simply click that tab to edit the page.

If you're not logged in, you'll need to login (creating an account first, if necessary) before being allowed to edit.

Discussion Pages

Every page on ZBrushInfo has an associated discussion (also known as talk) page associated with it. You can reach the discussion page for a "normal" page by clicking on the discussion tab near the top right corner of the page.

Most discussion pages on the site are fully user-editable, even if the associated main page is not. So discussion pages are a great place to post notes and suggestions about other pages. They're also a good place for questions relating specifically to the page they talk about. For example, if you think something on the main page might be inaccurate, or something is unclear and needs to be clarified, posting a question on the discussion page is appropriate. However, general questions should still be posted to ZBrushCentral.
