Basic Info

Turntable Plus is a plugin designed to add some extra functionality to the ZBrush movie palette. With it you can pan and zoom while recording a turntable, adjust 3D Layer intensity to morph from one shape to another and also render HD Geometry.

The plugin adds a Turntable Plus submenu to the ZBrush Movie palette.

The Start and Stop buttons set the beginning and end points for pan and zoom. The Mid button is optional and acts as an in-between keyframe that bends the path between Start and Stop positions rather as a magnet would do (see the image below).

The Render Movie button shows the options dialog and then launches the render process.

Settings

Turntable setup is exactly the same as for a regular turntable, using the Movie palette buttons and sliders:

Use the X, Y or Z buttons to set the turntable axis. (Note that Scrn cannot be used for Turntable Plus.)

Set the SpinFrames and the Spin Cycles sliders for the number of frames and cycles for the turntable.

Options

Pressing the Render Movie button brings up the options dialog:

Layer Intensity

If this option is selected then if a subtool has a selected 3D Layer its intensity will be adjust from 0 - 1 during the render. This works well for morphing between shapes.

HD Geometry

If this option is selected then HD Geometry will be rendered for all subtools.

Note: rendering HD Geometry can take a long time and will add greatly to the movie render time. Remember this when setting frame and cycle sliders.

Tips

  • To render a movie without turntable spin (so that there is only pan/zoom or Layer intensity adjustment), set Spin Cycles to 0.
  • When Spin Cycles is set to 0, rotation on the spin axis is recorded according to the Start and Stop positions (up to 180 degrees). Use this to record part turns. Note that SpinFrames should not be set above 180 when recording part turns (doing so may cause the model to not rotate at all).
  • ZBrush will add movie recordings to each other if they are not deleted. Use this to build a movie in sections.
  • For long movies with high frame numbers or when rendering HD Geometry, render a test movie of a few frames first to check positions. Remember to delete the test movie before continuing.
