Lessons from the Crypt: Geoff Priest

Click here for a high rez version

Geoff Priest put together a great thread at ZBrushCentral with lots of innovative uses of ZBrush and ZSpheres in particular.

The Horsehead ghoul was done in ZSpheres:

Notice how each bone is an individual and separate object. This can be accomplished by holding ALT and clicking on the linking spheres between the control ZSpheres. This is a tool that is simply not used enough and is very powerful.

The next image shows the progression:

The way Geoff created the book with ZSpheres is also really innovative and interesting:

Those half-visible ZSpheres are called Attractor ZSpheres or Magnet Spheres. To learn more about them click here.

At the end of the thread he finishes off with his technique for creating the ladder:

Thanks Geoff for a great thread and an awesome Scared Silly entry.

spaceboy412 - yeah, that zsphere technique is very cool. Today, someone in one of my classes pointed out you could do a similar thing with Mesh Extraction from a 3D plane. Just draw the profile of it as a mask and then press SubTool: Mesh Extract with a high thickness value. :)
